Welcome

ALP-IX in Munich is a new Internet Exchange that offers direct and settlement-free IP interconnection (“peering“) to other IP networks which operate a Point-of-Presence in the city of Munich. Its name ALP-IX is derived from the word Alps (“ALP“) and Internet Exchange (“IX“).

ALP-IX is owned and operated by DE-CIX Management GmbH based in Frankfurt. DE-CIX already operates one of the world’s largest Internet Exchanges in Frankfurt plus a smaller regional IX in Hamburg. The company serves over 300 Internet providers from 40 countries. This includes all leading players in the industry including Google, Yahoo, Sprint, AT&T, Level3 and many others.

Munich has a colorful mix of global players and SMEs, large companies and one-man businesses. More importantly, Munich is a major spot for the media industry and information and communication technology. DE-CIX is proud to be part of the process to further improve the telecommunication infrastructure not only for Munich but for all of Bavaria and the neighboring countries by establishing the ALP-IX state of the art Internet Exchange right in the heart of the city. ALP-IX is the only IX in the region that offers Gigabit-Ethernet and 10 Gigabit-Ethernet services.

ALP-IX is ready for service since August 4th, 2008. A number of players already joined the exchange. Check out the “Participants“ section for more details.

New customers ready to join ALP-IX, will get a GE or 10GE port for three month free of charge. And there are no setup fees! Contact sales@alp-ix.net for more information.
